1. What, if any, athletic experiences did you have prior to starting CrossFit?
When I was a kid, I did Taekwondo from the ages of 8-12, in high school I did track for 2 years and in College I was on crew (rowing) for two years. For a number of years before I had kids I played a lot of softball and basketball.
2. When did you start working out at Seaward?
December of 2014. I moved to Sarasota in November of 2014 and took up running. I used to run by the old Seaward location almost every day and was always curious about what was going on in there until one day I decided to just go in and see what was up.
3. What keeps you coming back?
Since I was 21 I’ve joined many gyms and have tried so many different workout programs. It wasn’t until I started to do crossfit that I noticed a genuine and visible change in my body. Also, I love the community. I’ve made so many friends through Seaward that I can’t imagine it not being a part of my life.
4. Was this you first experience doing CrossFit?
When I first walked into the space I ran into Chuck and Vanessa who had just finished teaching a 6am class. They were very welcoming and open to answer all of my questions about Crossfit. Soon after I started on a part-time schedule but I was soon so hooked that I needed to change it to full-time.
5. If you could write a WOD what would it be?
15 Clean and Jerks
15 Push Presses
6. What are some of your goals, fitness, or personal?
I want to be able to do a Muscle-up and 50 unbroken double unders.
7. Any PRs you’re proud of?
My Murph has gotten faster and faster each year. Last year I was just over an hour and I did it without breaking up any of the movements.
8. List any improvements you have noticed in your life since starting CF?
My clothes fit so much better! Also, just being more aware of what my body is capable of has been amazing. From carrying my kids around to moving things around the yard, the practical applications of being fit have been great. Mentally, just knowing that you can push yourself harder, and go a bit further is a reward in and of itself.
9. What’s your favorite meal (cheat meal is fine!)?
I could have a good thai fried rice or beef krapow everyday. If that’s not readily available, you’ll find me having street tacos at a number of different local food trucks. :)
10. What would you tell a friend contemplating CF
It can seem intimidating at first but once you begin your life will begin to change. You are now part of a community…not just at your gym but around the world. A community that wants to see you become a better version of yourself. A community that wants to see you untap your full potential. Within a few weeks you’ll see your body change, you’ll start to feel better and you’ll begin to appreciate the full capability of your body and mind. Also, it’s tons of fun!
